Experiment 3:Final Submission

The future looks bleak. As the human population rises, cities are becoming congested. We are running out of room for development. The three-dimensional spaces at different levels are taking designs to the sky to find the perfect balance between nature, health and the built environment. This will contribute to challenge the limits of architectural design in the form of futuristic modernity. In addition to developing skyline, the bridges are landscaped and equipped for a variety of services traditionally restricted to the ground: medical facility, Media rooms, lounges, library, pools, and rooftop sky gardens with plenty of mechanisms to recycle waste, harness natural resources, optimize space and natural sunlightPurposefully, parks are hoisted on steel structures high above the ground:the charm of traditional courtyards combined with the modernity of the project. Circulation is linear with Floating Observatories as integral parts of the suspension system. The buildings are shaped to encourage self-sustaining high above the ground.

Description:

Location of  the Arch School is decided to be on above of the Square House, because the theory is to apply 3-dimensional space in the sky and the building is designed to be set a connection between Square House and the sky. 

In case to react with the sky space, the building seems to be lack of support for its stability. However many parts such as the top frame is designed to be hollow to answer this kind worries, as this design can be found in the Sketch up Model.

Another part of the theory is to make the ground disappear. So the allocation of the rooms abandons the traditional Level or Ground Mode. They are designed to be hanged on the top frame by thin column, which makes them to be detached to the datum and not lose connection with each others.

The exist of the word Bridge is spited into Three parts: visual, functional and ideal. For the visual exist bridge is put on the frame: The horizontal extended top gives strength to the below parts. The functional part of the bridge provides walking space for students, expressed as approximated two levels (Actually as the theory is to apply 3-dimensional space in the sky, the height limit and concept of exact level are weaken). Ideally, the building is the connect the Square House with the upper space, the sky, in order to reflect the theory. 


Picture shows the offices, research area and meeting room. Material on top is to collaborate with its structure. Material on stuff offices is to give a sense of solemn, lol.

2 Moving Elements:

Disappearing Floors:


As visitors makes moving an the floors, the structure of it will give a sense of floor being disappearing. This is not only just a movement of a single part of the building, but react will human's moving: The steps moving, the floor starts to disappear.

This also reflects the theory: Building in the sky and Disappearance of the ground. Because this element pretends to float in the sky, which is the goal when buildings managed in sky try to achieve. And it gives more sunlight to the below in order not to make it too shaded.

Controllable shelter:


When design buildings in the sky, it would not be a good idea to make it very closed and isolated - this will waste the splendid view on a high level. So this Arch School is designed to be extremelly open. However, if doing so, the weather should be considered, so this controllable shelter is made to protect inner space when is rainy or strongly windy.

As the space will be limited in architectural design, the whole structure need to be analyzed in 3-dimension: Traditional design that the building is refined by ground level would be replaced by the trend of creating structures based on sky, on the air around it.

Two Concepts: 


Purity of the whole without recognizable parts: This idea suggests that the whole building should be the "Total work of art", which means every single parts in the structure would work together in a same mode. Another meaning of the idea is this kind of integration should be shape by assembly of unrecognizable parts.

Aesthetic lightness: This idea proposes that the beauty can be shown from the lightness of the structure, Because a too heavy or steady shape may result in the lack of energy and movement.

Electroliquid Aggregation:


Fantasy of lightness within the structures assembled purely as a whole: An impressive building is often created in an abstract and light structure, which may give a sense of fantasy or illusion. However, the free shape does not effect the sense of the building to be a whole. This is because the assembly of the structure is under the same style, no matter the parts of the building can be recognized or not. In addition, this kind of appeal is not only expressed from the appearance of the building, but also the function of it (This will be talked in next Para).

Sustainable Theme: The theme of the building is another reason why the structure is created as a whole. Besides the ground level, this whole station is form to be two opened spaces: The upper one indicates cooling while the square one is for warmth. This because the downside level can reach richer sunlight with the application of thermal mass on a corner and the upper terrace is shaded under dark reflected shelter with good ventilation. This arrangement can reduce the use of electrical device to provide warmth or cooling down, waiters can choose to stay at different level when temperature changes.

The whole structure of the station insists on the lightness by applying curvy surface with translucent materials and refined interlocking, which makes the structure combined as an integrated form.




The appearance of the station gives a sense of fantasy because of its combination and forms, especially the huge curvy upper shading.




The lower level can absorb more sunlight for its direction and dark material. This creates the warm volume in the station, which can reflect the sustainable them with the upper cooler space.
