18 Axonometric Sketches

Axonometrics of integreted concepts:

Purity of the whole without recognizable parts + Monumentality as a result of the lack of recognizable scale indicators.

Aesthetic lightness. + Continuity of surface/space.

Aesthetic lightness. + Expressing the fluid material property of concrete through form.

Introduction:

This design is to provide workshops for two clients: Jeff Wright motorbike (Above one) and Givenchy (Below one). A showroom between them is also designed. In the project, the structure of motorbike workshop is designed to be very open while for Givenchy, space is more refined. This because their working processes are different: motorbike need more place to move around and the designed of luxuries needs an isolated place to get concentration.

Water is applied in the building. This not only because it can integrate the whole structure or give fluid sense etc, but has its meaning: when I considered the surrounding for the workshops, I found it should be in nature: motorbikes are running among the mountains and the design of a piece of bracelet can show sense of nature. This reminds me that the building itself should have a natural element in the building besides its surrounding, and this element needs to show both the movement of a motor and delicate of a bracelet. Then it comes out: the moving water can be a good choice.

Explaining images:

The entrance of the building for visitors is designed to be a cave far away from the main building. It is actually at another side of a hill. This gives two interesting points: 1.When you only see the building, one thing should be worked out is that how can get into this place. 2. Before getting into the entrance, the view is hidden by hills, so the building can not be seen, after coming out from the entrance cave, the splendid view suddenly appears.

The building seems consist of geometrical shapes randomly. However, an inner line is inside the arrangement but putting those two stairs on it.

This is how the space in workshops is arranged.

Week 3 Video

Water is an natural element that can be applied into the design process of architecture. It can enhance the sense of integration and make the building be more vigorous. Water can also provide more possibilities when designing the set of the building.
